Standards of
Satisfactory Progress
In order
to continue as a student at
the Institute, a student must be making
satisfactory academic progress toward completion of
his/her program of study. Student progress is measured
in clock hours. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA
throughout the program to be granted a certificate.
Program Clock/Credit Hours:
Student progress is measured in Program Clock Hours, as
defined by both the Department of Education and the Ohio
State Board of Career Colleges and Schools.
Minimum Cumulative Grade Average:
Students are expected to maintain at least a 2.0
cumulative grade-point average. If a student does not
meet the minimum required average, he or she will be
placed on academic probation for the following grading
period. If after that probationary period the student
does not meet the minimum requirements, the student may
be suspended from the program.
Calculating Grade Point Average (GPA):
The grade point average is the ratio of the number of
quality points gained to the number of credit hours
attempted. Grades earn the following quality points: A=4
points; B=3 points; C=2 points; D=1 point; F=0 points.
To figure overall standing, the student would add all
quality points earned and divide that number by the
number of hours attempted. For example, a student who
earns an A in a three-credit hour class, a B in a
three-credit hour class, and a C in a two-credit hour
class would earn 12 points for the A (4 points x 3
hours), 9 points for the B (3 points x 3 hours), and 4
points for the C (2 points x 2 hours) for a total of 25
points. To complete the GPA calculation, 25 would then
be divided by the number of hours attempted, which in
the above example would be 8 (3+3+2) for a final GPA of
3.13.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
In order for a student to earn a certificate, he/she
must 1) successfully complete all credits or hours
required for their specific program; 2) earn at least a
cumulative 2.0 GPA; and 3) fulfill all financial
obligations to the institution.
